The War to End all Wars, The Great War, World War One, The War of the Trenches, The Forgotten War. Many names have been given to the First World War alongside various myths surrounding its triggers, where it was decided, and the extent to which it affected Great Britain’s economic, political and social power on a global scale. What is certain is that the war and its impact have been repeatedly represented in texts of all kinds – poems, paintings, novels, films and TV series. In this seminar, we will study different forms of representation, paying special attention to genre conventions and their development over time as well as their stance to the concept of history.
