Course Description
How does social change happen; what moves societies forward? Is it law and policy? Inventions? Revolution? One possible answer to this question is that literary texts can and do indeed change the world.
This class focuses on literature and other art forms from the political pamphlet to documentary photography and film as agents of social change and progress from the Mid-19th century until today. We will approach the topic from a comparative perspective, looking at works from the United States and from Germany.
This course is particularly recommended for students of the Angewandte Studiengänge.
