Course Description

These courses are only for Lehramt students who began their studies before WS 2019/2020 and Angewandte students (see below for the exact modules). They replace the Academic Writing course.
These courses also replace Academic Writing for Journalism students.
The course covers advanced academic skills, including developing a thesis, and the necessary steps to investigate and write it up.

Culinary Identities
In this course we will be examining the cultural significance of cooking and eating. Course topics will include the signification of foodways, food trends, and how identities are performed (and appropriated) through food, cooking and cuisine.

Slayer Studies
“I suddenly find myself needing to know the plural of apocalypse.” As well as covering the finer points of academic research and writing, this course aims to provide students with an introduction to the academic study of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No prior knowledge is assumed, but an interest in non-sparkling vampires is important.

Video Games
FPS, RTS, MMORPG, shmups – if you’re interested in learning more about words like these, then this is the course for you! In addition to covering the finer points of academic research and writing, this course aims to provide students with a basic introduction to the study of video games. No prior knowledge of video games is assumed, but an interest in getting to know this increasingly significant cultural medium is important.
