The seminar aims at providing an overview of key areas in educational psychology as it relates to language learning and teaching. We will be looking at the assumptions which underlie teachers' approaches to language teaching and at the factors which influence students' own sense of self. We will pay particular attention to the psychology of the group in EFL teaching and explore practical ways of implementing group work. We will also examine the role of emotions and motivation in language learning. Humanistic and holistic approaches to learning and teaching will also play a central role in the course. Credit Requirements: The following work forms are available to enable students to fulfill the requirements of their respective examination regulations: term papers, module examinations, written examinations, "aktive Teilnahme" as a presentation or short paper, projects.
Our basic textbook will be Marion Williams et al. Exploring Psychology in Language Learning and Teaching. Oxford, 2015. You will need to buy this this book! However, it will be supplemented by material from many other sources.
