Course Description

Germany is a perfect example of how the political construction of nations (imagined communities) and borders shape societies and influence them; for example through a culture of remembrance. Using journalistic and scientific articles, students will enter into a dialogue with the instructor and each other regarding the history of the “Germans”. Discussing various moments of German history the students will get a better understanding of the alleged “German identity”.
The class cannot be credited for “Lehramt Studierende”. It is particularly recommended for students of the Angewandte Studiengänge.
